Wheelchair use skills for caregivers
Wheelchair
use skills for caregivers
Users who cannot drive the wheelchair themselves
need caregivers to assist in driving. How to easily use a wheelchair when
encountering steps, stairs or ramps?
(1) Push the wheelchair up and down the stairs
There are two ways to push the wheelchair up and
down the steps. One is facing the step, using the foot to assist the tilting
lever to tilt the wheelchair backwards, pushing the wheelchair to the caster to
step over the step and then lowering the caster, continuing to push forward to
make the big wheel tangent to the step, and then lifting the big wheel; Another
method is to turn the wheelchair back to the step. The caregiver lifts the
front casters, retracts the wheelchair to the steps, and simultaneously pushes
the wheelchair up the steps.
There are also two ways to push the wheelchair
down the steps. One is to put the wheelchair facing the steps, first tilt the
wheelchair backwards, then slowly push the wheelchair forward so that the big
wheel slowly falls to the ground, and then put the wheelchair flat: another way
is to let the wheelchair back to the stairs, the caregiver first steps down
Pull the wheelchair backwards until the big wheel approaches the edge of the
step, so that the big wheel slowly moves down the step, then lift the caster
back to pull the wheelchair, and then slowly lower the wheelchair after the
wheelchair completely leaves the step, and turn in the direction to continue.
(2) Pushing the wheelchair up and down the ramp
When pushing the wheelchair uphill, the user
leans forward and must go straight ahead. When going downhill, it is best to
let the user face the back and face the slope, so that the user faces the back,
that is, facing the slope, the caregiver controls the speed of the wheelchair,
and the wheel with the driving brake can be controlled by the driving brake
when going downhill. Speed, when the slope is small, the wheelchair user can
face the front during the downhill process, and the caregiver must hold the
handle to control the speed.
(3) Push the wheelchair up and down the stairs
Pushing the wheelchair up and down the stairs
requires the user and the caregiver to complete the work. When going up the
stairs, push the wheelchair to the stairway, let the wheelchair back to the
stairs, tilt the wheelchair and pull the wheelchair to the big wheel to be
tangent to the first step. The user holds the hand ring with both hands and
pulls the wheelchair upward with the caregiver. So that it rolls on the stairs
step by step. When going down the stairs, the wheelchair is facing the stairs,
the wheelchair is tilted to the balance point and the wheelchair is pushed to
the edge of the stairs. The user holds the hand ring with both hands, and the
resistance is appropriately applied when the caregiver pushes the wheelchair
down the steps. The two cooperate to make the wheelchair step by step. fall.
Reminder: After the nursing staff or the
patient's family members have finished reading, please strictly follow the
above steps and requirements to practice, master the skills, ensure that the
operation is safe and reliable before the patient can be moved on the ramp,
stairs or stairs.
